In spirit of National Book Lover's Day on August 9th, for the month of August NACE Houston will be hosting a Book Club with Lisa Hopkins-Barry, CPCE, CMP, covering the book "Fierce Conversations" by Susan Scott. Lisa's full presentation will be held on August 19th, 2020 at 5PM, and during the two weeks prior we will be hosting an optional (but recommended) review sessions for each weeks chapters. Moderator, Lisa Hopkins-Barry, CPCE, CMP Bio:

A twenty-six year hotel catering professional, Lisa Hopkins Barry is a Midwestern native of O’Fallon, Illinois.  She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communication from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1986.  Lisa arrived in Texas with Medallion Hotels in May 1996 and returned to her catering roots in 1998 at The Houstonian Hotel as the Director of Catering and Conferences. In June of 2019, Lisa became the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hilton University of Houston.  In this role, she oversees the negotiation for group, local and national business, as well as events and meetings.  The hotel is a teaching hotel and approximately 60% of the hotel team are students in the graduate and undergraduate Hotel Restaurant Management program.  

Lisa joined The National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) in 1999 and served as the Houston Chapter President from 2003 until July 2007.  After serving as the Region IV Vice President on the NACE National Board in 2007/2008, Lisa served a one year term as the Chair of the Chapter Presidents’ Council.  In 2009/2010, Lisa was the chair of The National Membership and Chapter Relations Committee and served on the 2010 Leadership Summit Planning Committee.  In 2009, she was honored to receive The NACE Caterer Member of the Year Award.

She served as First Vice President/President Elect on the NACE National Board from 2010 – 2012, and National President from 2012 - 2014.  In July of 2012, The National Association of Catering Executives voted to change its name to The National Association for Catering and Events.  As NACE National President, she also participated on the Foundation of NACE Board, the association’s philanthropic arm.    

Lisa is a frequent lecturer on the topics of leadership and catering sales at the University of Houston’s Hilton College of Hotel Restaurant Management’s Catering and Events Class, participated with her Houstonian Hotel colleagues in “The Best of the Best” Series at the U of H, and been a panelist and moderator for The Hall of Honor Industry Think Tank Sessions.  She was the Distinguished Guest Speaker for the Spring Career Fair in 2014, and a member of the College’s Dean Search Committee in the fall of 2014.  

She also was a featured speaker on the topics of leadership, customer service, catering and NACE governance initiatives at various National industry conferences such as: Catersourse, NACE Experience!, The Special Event and The Eventworld Conference.
